Frequently asked questions
The things parents ask before choosing a mobile, with straight answers about fit, use and safety.
Choosing a mobile
Do we actually need a baby mobile?
No. Your face, voice and the ordinary things around your baby give them plenty to notice. A mobile adds a gentle point of interest during awake time and a design you may enjoy seeing in the room. It is worth buying if those things appeal to you, not because your baby needs one to develop well.
Our baby sleeps in a bassinet, not a cot. Is a mobile still worth it?
First work out where you would hang it. Our screw-clamp stand is not confirmed to fit every bassinet, especially fabric or mesh sides. If you do not have a secure mounting point approved by the furniture maker, wait rather than buying a setup you cannot use safely.
My baby is already three months old. Have I missed the window?
Not necessarily. Some babies enjoy watching a mobile at that age. But the time it can safely hang over a cot may be short: remove it once your baby can push up on hands and knees or at five months, whichever comes first, and sooner if they can reach it. Consider whether you also want it as out-of-reach room décor later.
What if my baby looks at the ceiling fan but ignores the mobile?
That can happen. Babies do not all respond to the same shapes or movement, and a new mobile may get no reaction at first. Try again during a calm, awake moment. If they turn away, leave it there; there is no viewing time to achieve.
Will it help my baby fall asleep?
We would not count on it for sleep. Some babies watch a mobile and settle; others become more alert. We recommend it for awake time. If it distracts your baby at bedtime, use it at another time or in another suitable place.
Are the pale designs too subtle for a newborn?
Very young babies often notice strong contrast more readily than soft colours. White Sheep is a quiet cream design; Whale, Ocean Orbs, Bee and Safari have more distinct colour differences. Choose the look you like, but do not expect any design to produce a particular visual milestone.
Will my baby just see the animals' undersides?
They will see the mobile from below, which is different from how it looks in a nursery photo. The hanging shapes face different directions as they sway. If a below-the-mobile view matters to your choice, ask us for a photo of the design before ordering.
How long will we use it?
Over-cot use has a short safety window, and every baby reaches for things at a different time. Take it down as soon as it becomes reachable, or by the earlier of pushing up on hands and knees and five months. You can keep it as decoration later if it remains securely mounted and well out of reach.
Is this a traditional Montessori visual mobile?
No. Our wood and felt mobiles are decorative designs inspired by giving a baby something simple to look at. They are not the classical Munari, Octahedron, Gobbi or Dancers sequence.
I'm buying for someone else. How do I pick the right one?
Ask what colours the parents like and whether they have a safe place to hang it. A mobile is a visible part of their room, so it is worth checking their taste rather than guessing. You can compare all eight designs together.
What comes with it
What do I get with Mobile Only or Mobile + Stand?
Mobile Only is one hanging mobile. It has no holder, music box or teether. Mobile + Stand adds our wooden clamp stand, a separate music box and a wooden teether. Check the chosen option on the product page before adding it to your bag.
What comes with two complete setups?
Two mobiles in the designs you select, two stands, two music boxes and two wooden teethers. Review both design choices in your bag before checkout.
Will the stand fit my cot, bedside crib or bassinet?
We cannot promise a fit for every rail or frame. The stand has a screw clamp; fabric, mesh, curved or unusually thick sides may not give it a secure grip. Check your furniture maker's instructions first. If you send us a photo of the rail and its measurements, we can help you assess it before you order.
How big and heavy is the stand?
The upright and angled arm are each about 32 cm. The base is about 8.5 cm wide and 7 cm high, the round joint is about 4.9 cm across, and the stand weighs approximately 332 g. We do not have a verified maximum clamp opening, so please ask us about your specific rail rather than assuming it fits.
Can I use a holder I already have?
That is what Mobile Only is for, provided your holder can support the mobile securely and keep every part and cord out of your baby's reach. Follow the holder maker's instructions. If you are unsure how the mobile would attach, send us a photo of the holder.
Does the mobile spin, light up or play music?
The hanging mobile can sway with air movement. It has no built-in motor, light or sound. The complete setup includes a separate music box that hangs between the stand and mobile; Mobile Only does not include it.
What is it made of?
The mobiles combine wooden parts, soft felt shapes and hanging cord. Shapes and colours vary by design. You can see the details in each product gallery and on our materials page.
How do I clean it?
Keep the mobile dry and check the hanging parts for wear or looseness. Follow the care instructions that come with your order. Before washing a felt or wooden part, ask us about that piece; soaking can change its shape or finish.
Use & safety
When can my baby start looking at it?
Once it is securely placed out of reach, you can show it during an awake moment in the early months. Your baby may glance for a few seconds, stare for longer or look away. Follow their lead rather than a schedule.
Do I need to entertain my baby through every wake window?
No. You can point to a shape, say what you see and pause for a response, but you do not need to turn every awake minute into an activity. A short look together is enough if that is what works today.
Can it hang above the cot?
Yes, if the mounting point is suitable, the mobile is firmly attached and every shape and cord stays completely out of reach. Check both the stand or holder instructions and your cot maker's guidance. Do not put any loose mobile parts inside the cot. See the American Academy of Pediatrics' nursery safety guidance.
How low should I hang it?
There is no single height that suits every cot and baby. Hang it so your baby cannot reach any part or cord, including as they grow and begin to push up. Check it regularly and remove it immediately if it becomes reachable.
When do I have to take it down?
Take an over-cot mobile down when your baby can push up on hands and knees or reaches five months, whichever comes first. Take it down sooner if they could reach it. That is the American Academy of Pediatrics' guidance.
What if my baby starts reaching for the shapes early?
Remove the mobile from above the cot then. Do not wait for five months. The hanging mobile and music box are not toys for a baby to pull or hold.
Can I hang it by the changing table?
Only with a secure mounting point that keeps it out of reach. Our cot stand has not been verified for every changing table, so do not clamp it to an unsuitable edge. Keep a hand on your baby during changes and never leave them on the table alone.
Can my baby play with the wooden teether?
The teether is a separate item included with a complete setup. Give it to your baby under supervision and inspect it for damage before use. The hanging mobile and music box must stay out of reach.
Will a mobile improve my baby's vision or development?
It gives your baby real shapes and gentle movement to notice, and gives you something to talk about together. We cannot promise a milestone or a longer attention span. Babies develop at their own pace.
Orders & help
When will my order arrive?
Check the delivery estimate for your location on the product page and at checkout. If you need it for a baby shower or another date, ask us before ordering so we can help you judge the timing.
Where is my order?
Open the tracking link in your dispatch email. If you cannot find it or the tracking has stopped updating, our order tracking page shows what to do next.
What if my baby does not take to it?
Babies can be hard to predict. Try it in a calm awake moment, and do not feel you have to make them look. If you are thinking of returning your order, contact us through the guarantee page with your order details so we can review the request and explain the next step.
How does the 60-day guarantee work?
If something is wrong or you want to request a return, send us the details within 60 days, with your order number if you have it. We will review your request and email you instructions. Please wait for those instructions before sending anything back.
What if something arrives damaged or missing?
Tell us what is missing or damaged through the returns and claims form. Include your order number and a photo if you can. We will check it and get back to you with the next step.
Can a real person help me choose or check the fit?
Yes. Send us a message with the designs you are weighing up. For stand fit, add a photo of your cot rail and its measurements. We would rather help you check before you buy.
Still wondering about something?
Tell us what you are choosing between, or send a photo of the space where you plan to hang it.
